Owning Your Dissatisfaction Gene
Transforming Poverty Consciousness to Prosperous Living
Research has demonstrated a dissatisfaction gene in animal models and humans. Serotonin is an essential mono-amine neurotransmitter which can also act as a hormone in the body. Serotonin is known to impact our memory, assist in learning as well as impact our happiness levels. Lower levels of serotonin and linked to increased anxiety and depression.
The 5_HTTLPR variant in the serotonin transporter gene has been linked to modifications in serotonergic systems important for supporting emotional and behavioral regulation. Although carrying the allele has been linked to risk for psychiatric disorders, there has been movement toward acknowledging 5-HTTLPR as benefit in making carriers both emotional and physiologically more sensitive to their environment.
This is where we can explore how our innate dissatisfaction is a genetic predisposition which no longer needs to be viewed as a problem but as an evolutionary modification that causes us to explore and create a life with a deeper level of satisfaction.
